Dr. Kiely is the President, CEO and Founder of Kiely Wealth Advisory Group. His responsibilities include overseeing the growth and direction of the Kiely Group. Dr. Kiely set out to create a different kind of investment advisory firm that did away with commission-based selling and the inherent incentives to place clients in proprietary or inferior products. Instead, he wanted the focus to be on the needs of the clients. To that end, he created a fee-only advisory practice that eliminates the conflict of interest inherent in the commission-based advisor model. In addition, he placed a strong emphasis on client education and empowering investors to make better decisions. Today that model is alive and flourishing.
Dr. Kiely has won or been nominated for teaching awards at each of the educational institutions at which he has taught: the University of South Florida, Texas A&M University, the Houston Weekend College for Corporate Executive MBAs, and East Carolina University. In addition to his teaching awards, Dr Kiely has also received research grants from prestigious institutions including Prudential Securities, The Real Estate Research Institute, Rydex Mutual Funds, and East Carolina University.
At the local level, Dr. Kiely has developed a number of financial planning seminars that have been offered through East Carolina University, the University of Richmond, UNC Asheville, the Asheville Center of Creative Retirement and a number of area community colleges. He has worked closely with a number of Endowment Funds, authored two weekly personal finance columns (“Dr. Finance” for the Asheville Citizen Times and “Your Money” for the Daily Reflector), provided weekly financial commentaries for a radio station, in addition to appearing as guest speaker at numerous civic organizations.
On the state and national level, Dr. Kiely lectures at professional meetings and has received the “Outstanding Conference Speaker” award from the North Carolina Association of CPAs. He has served on the advisory board for TD Waterhouse (now TD Ameritrade), Rydex Mutual Funds and Tiburon Strategic Advisors. He has been featured in Bloomberg Wealth Manager and Investment Advisor magazine numerous times, along with being quoted in a number of other national publications. He has published a number of articles in academic journals and is the author of a personal finance book, Investment Strategies for the 21st Century.
His hobbies include spending time with his wife Kellie, their twin girls Kait & Piper, kite-surfing, traveling, gardening, coin collecting, number crunching, architecture and sports. He wishes there were 30 hours in every day.
